Torno

This 12.50-metre steel motor cruiser was designed by H.W. de Voogt and built at shipyard De Vlijt. The delivery price in 1934 was 8,140 guilders. The motor yacht was named Joma, and she was one of the first steel yachts built at De Vlijt.

Little is known about Joma’s later history. The yacht was always kept in covered boathouses. In earlier years, the crew (a cook and a skipper) slept under the hatch on the aft deck, next to the rudder chain. Fortunately, portholes provided ventilation.

Since around 1990, the motor yacht—now named Torno—has been owned by Jeannette and Ad Spek. When they purchased her, the yacht had not been used for a long time and was in poor condition. In the years following 1990, they fully restored the vessel and returned her to her original state with great care.
