New Wave

In the spring of 1989, an advert appeared in the Telegraaf’s boating section offering Contentus for sale—a classic beauty from 1958, built by Van Lent. It was love at first sight, and I bought her the same day for the asking price. That turned out to be a wise decision, as there were, I later found out, others interested.

Much has happened in the 34 years I’ve had the pleasure of calling myself her owner. The yacht was renamed New Wave, marking the start of a new chapter in my life. Although I’m now on her second engine, and despite the fact that New Wave was partially destroyed by fire and later nearly sank, I have never once considered parting with her.

Ten years ago, I joined the Feadship Heritage Fleet, where I’ve met like-minded people who cherish floating heritage and have built strong friendships, both in the Netherlands and abroad. I hope to continue being part of this community with New Wave for many years to come.
