SAIL Amsterdam 2025: Celebrating 750 years of Amsterdam with the Feadship Heritage Fleet
Traditionally held every five years, SAIL Amsterdam made a welcome return in 2025 for its tenth edition, exactly ten years after the last. This year’s event was extra special, marking both the milestone SAIL and Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. The Feadship Heritage Fleet proudly joined the festivities, adding classic elegance to a week filled with maritime history and camaraderie.
A remarkable journey
On Tuesday, participating yachts gathered at the private harbour of Royal Van Lent in Amsterdam Westport before setting course early Wednesday morning for the sealocks of IJmuiden together.
The sight of dozens of gleaming Feadships making their way north was unforgettable – especially knowing that the Feadship Export Association itself was founded in Amsterdam in 1949, at Café De Roode Leeuw.
Two distinguished yachts, Piet Hein and Nymphaea – both designed by H.W. de Voogt – officially joined the Fleet during the event. Their membership marks a proud connection between De Voogt’s legacy and today’s dedicated owners.
A mooring with distinction
Upon arrival, the Fleet was assigned an exclusive 265-metre berth in the outflow of the North Holland Canal, complete with night security and views of the tall ships. Passers-by paused to admire the beautifully maintained yachts – timeless examples of Dutch craftsmanship, side by side under the Feadship flag.
Highlights on and off the water
The week was filled with memorable moments. Members gathered for a walking dinner with live music, enjoying good company, fine food and the unique atmosphere of Amsterdam’s waterfront.
By Friday evening, the celebrations reached their peak. The Meezingbende – featuring several musically talented members – set the tone for a lively night of singing, barbecuing and shared enjoyment. It was a celebration that truly captured the spirit of the Fleet.
Fair winds and fine company
The weather was ideal: calm waters, soft summer light and just enough breeze to keep the flags gently moving. Everything came together perfectly – from organisation to hospitality – reflecting what makes this community so unique: a close-knit group of owners united by their love of their yachts, of Feadship, and of life on the water.
A heartfelt thank-you
Warm thanks go to the organising team and to all members who contributed their time, energy and enthusiasm. Together they made SAIL 2025 not only a tribute to Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, but also a celebration of the living legacy of Feadship.
The heritage lives on – on the water, in the stories, and in the people who preserve it.
